Harvest House Partners with Local Nonprofit to Bring Art to its Clients

The Gift of Art

Imagine a world where art isn’t a privilege to some but rather a gift to all. However, in today’s fast-paced society, we find that not everyone can afford the opportunity to stop and appreciate art at a gallery or museum. Art should be an experience that everyone can enjoy and learn from. Art In Common Places is determined to make that a reality by bringing art to Harvest House.

The nonprofit’s mission is to exhibit art in the form of broadsides in high-traffic areas for all to enjoy. Each broadside combines the talent of professional artists and poets. They can be found all over Sarasota in public places like laundromats, public housing, car washes, and medical offices.

Art Transforms

Art In Common Places recently met with Harvest House to present the idea of bringing artwork to their campuses. Harvest House is a local nonprofit providing supportive housing, food security, and addiction recovery services. They serve over 900 clients who will now benefit from the transformative power of art through these broadsides. Seeing and creating art allows expression and discovery; Harvest House understands the value of art and how it can be instrumental in the recovery process for many of its clients.

A Beautiful Place

Harvest House Marketing Coordinator Clifford McDonald is also an artist who understands the impact art has on the community and its power to create positive change. Last year, he collaborated with local poet Cedric Hameed on a broadside titled A Beautiful Place. Their project represents the essence and innermost aspirations of what we can collectively achieve in the space we hold… inner peace. They believe this to be the foundation of seeing the beauty in life and community!

A Beautiful Place is currently on display at four of Harvest House’s eight campuses. After each month, Art In Common Places will switch out the broadsides with new artwork and poetry collaborations.
