Sarasota Agencies Work Together to Provide Wraparound Services

This is how teamwork makes the dream actually work.

Three Sarasota agencies joined forces last week to serve a young adult experiencing hard times. Harvest House Young Adult Services, Salvation Army Street Team, and Centerstone’s outpatient treatment program are all members of the local Continuum of Care Agency (CoC), Suncoast Partnership to End Homelessness.

Individual issues underlying the homeless experience are often compounded. Combinations of mental illness, substance abuse, and other responses to trauma and/or generational poverty are not solved with housing alone. It takes a careful, compassionate, and coordinated effort to ensure that one individual with multiple barriers will get a fair chance to excel into stability.

“Tom from the Salvation Army Street Teams program was working with a 24-year-old man, but Street Teams was not the right fit this client. Tom decided to reach out to partner agencies to collaborate for wraparound services that would meet the complex needs of this young man.

Working with Dayna at Harvest House, Caitlyn at Centerstone, and a local employer, this client was employed, housed, and receiving outpatient mental health services in just two days. Tom, Dayna, and Caitlyn represent the kind of peer relationships we all count on—case managers from various agencies working together for the good of the clients and the community. This is truly a testament to the power of being better together!”

Local agencies working together is key. The Salvation Army Street Team is often an individual’s first stop. Harvest House provides supportive housing and case management and has special programs designed for young adults ages 18-24. Centerstone provides mental health services. Between these three, we were able to meet this young man’s needs without letting him slip through the cracks.
