Technology-Assisted Care

Harvest House has made our virtual Evidenced Based Recovery course available to anyone in our nation that is in need of treatment options for addiction recovery in a time where #socialdistancing is keeping us safe but also opening up a can of triggers for those in recovery. Addiction is a stress-induced disease, to begin with, so during these times that are stressful for all of us, we want to extend an extra layer of support to those in the recovery community. We see you, know you, and love you.

There are heavy consequences as a result of shutting down various continuums of care. Support groups and meetings across the country have come to a complete stop, leaving many feeling thrown off of their routine that has kept them grounded for so long. Fortunately for those that have mobile access to the internet and a smartphone, many meetings and support groups have moved to virtual platforms, but unfortunately that is not the reality for all. If you know someone in recovery during this time, please do your best to stay connected with them as we weather this storm together.

This Evidenced Based Recovery course will dive into triggers and how to deal with or deprogram them, the importance of support systems, pathways to recovery, and the science behind behavior modification. This course is developed and taught by Harvest House Director of Program Services and local substance abuse expert, Jim Rouches.

Harvest House clients will be going through this course over the next few weeks from the comfort and safety of their individual units, submitting journal entries in response to each video. Typically, clients attend class 6 nights each week, and while we already miss being together, the positive feedback we’ve received from these journaling and meditation activities has been wonderful. Clients are appreciating the opportunity to sit still, reflect, and quiet their minds. Writing and sharing journal entry responses has offered new levels of healing for clients that were frankly unanticipated by staff and clients alike.

We plan to share a few of our client’s insightful journal entries with you in the coming weeks, so stay tuned. In the meantime, please share this resource with anyone that might need it.

COVID-19 UPDATE

In response to COVID-19, Harvest House has not stopped taking in clients for any of our programs. We’re preparing to increase services and capacity however possible by working with our donors, local foundations, and our non-profit, public, and private partners in the coming weeks. We expect the need for services, housing, and food that our community is experiencing to grow as we head into April, so we’re getting ready to meet those needs while keeping our clients and staff as safe and healthy as possible.

If you’d like to support these efforts and help meet the growing needs for basic essentials, please consider supporting our Benevolence Fund: harvesthousecenters.org/benevolence.
