A Bright Future for our Young Adult Graduates

Young Adult Class of 2022

On June 1st, 2022, we celebrated two of our young adult clients who recently graduated high school and one young adult slated to graduate from Suncoast Technical College (STC) GED Adult Learning in the next few weeks! Each graduate has worked incredibly hard to reach this milestone. They have persevered through some pretty intense challenges with a ‘never-give-up’ attitude, and we know this perspective will continue to take them far in life.

Giving Back

In addition to maintaining academic excellence along the way, they also immersed themselves in their communities. Alex shows up to GED class on time and engages with his volunteer tutors each day. Yammy leads a weekly Bible Study group at his school during his lunch period, regularly volunteers at the Harvest House pantry on Fridays, and played baseball his senior year. “T” is involved with several clubs at her high school and has volunteered to work the concession stands for her school’s sports events. On top of school and extracurricular activities, these students maintained consistent employment, all with a smile on their faces.

A Bright Future Ahead

Our Harvest House family is beaming with pride for these young adults as we celebrate their accomplishments. Although they had every reason to give up, they continued to push; and the result of their hard work is worth the recognition.

We are proud to announce that each of them has post-secondary education plans. Alex will continue at STC; Yammy also plans to attend STC to study Business Management, while “T” will pursue her associate’s degree at SCF. Their past has given them strength and wisdom. As a result, their future is brighter!

Homeless and at-risk youth, ages 16-24, come from a history of insufficient support systems, various types of abuse, episodes in and out of the foster care system, parents with addiction, and homelessness as children. As children age out of these situations, they are often expected to become productive members of society on their own. However, extreme privilege gaps make them vulnerable to a cycle of poverty and homelessness.
