Discovering Superpowers at Harvest House
NAMI of Sarasota and Manatee Counties is an organization of families, friends, and individuals whose lives have been affected by mental illness. Together, they advocate for better lives for those with a mental illness through support, education, and advocacy.
Almost 100% of Harvest House clients between the ages of 16-24 are experiencing a lack of mental fitness and stability. Our housing programs come with wrap-around services. This intimate experience allows case managers to identify client’s individual needs and connect them with the necessary partner services.
Sarah and Taylor, two passionate advocates for mental fitness and employees of NAMI Sarasota Manatee, reached out to Harvest House Young Adult Services in May to open an opportunity for us to learn more about each other. After they came for a community tour and met with our team, we knew a partnership was a match made in heaven!
On June 10, NAMI hosted their first activity night with the young adults in our YOUth Drop-In Center. Clients exercised their creativity and self-love practices through a Strengths Discovery Workshop. They painted a variety of items, ranging from rocks to pots, that represented a celebration of their unique strengths. They were asked who their favorite superhero was and explored how they identified with these superhero powers as strengths within themselves.
Besides the incredibly good time full of laughs and a delicious dinner, the end results were fantastic! Lasting connections were made, creativity was exercised, bellies were full, and hearts were warmed. We’re all looking forward to seeing this partnership continue to bloom.
