It Takes A Village – Sarah’s Story

It Takes A Village

Dear Friends,

We hope this letter finds you well. At Harvest House, we wanted to share a story with you that showcases the value of social support and the power of community. We hope you find it as inspiring as we did.

Sarah grew up in a troubled single-parent household, which left her struggling to overcome her traumatic past and thrive as an adult. When Sarah moved to Florida to pursue her dream job at an aquarium, she faced numerous obstacles, including high living costs and mounting debts.

But even in the darkest moments, Sarah refused to give up and persevered for the sake of her son.

Her situation worsened when she received notice that her lease would not be renewed. She had to rely on friends and eventually rented a hotel room. When they could no longer afford it, they slept in their car. Thankfully, Sarah’s manager at Publix learned of her situation and connected her with Harvest House.

Because of our supporters, we were able to provide Sarah and her son with housing, case management, life-skill classes, and community. Her family no longer had to get dressed in a car or use bottled water to brush their teeth in parking lots. They finally had a place to call home again, a sanctuary where they could rebuild their lives.

The saying “It takes a village” implies that a community’s collective involvement is crucial in achieving a goal.

Harvest House is a supportive community that empowers our participants to transform their lives. Today, Sarah proudly serves as an assistant customer service manager at Publix. She started saving again, regularly volunteers at Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium and realized her dream of enrolling in college.

“Harvest House has been a blessing. It’s one of those places you hear about that helps people, but you don’t understand the impact it has on the lives of those being helped. My case manager has pushed me to new heights and continually shows genuine support in my journey.”
– Sarah (Home Again Client)

In a time when the desire to progress is the only goal, we lost something significant…community. We’ve become so caught up in efficiency, convenience, and speed that we’ve unintentionally given up connection, belonging, and security. The Village continues to shrink, much to everyone’s detriment.

Here is where you come in. You believe in our mission and generously support our efforts to restore the Village. With your continued support, Harvest House will continue to be the light for individuals and families seeking to rewrite their stories like Sarah.

As we close out 2023 and look at our impact, we also look forward to knowing that more families in 2024 need this Village. Please consider supporting our services again or for the first time.

Thanks to the generosity of anonymous donors, every dollar will be matched up to $100,000 until the end of the year.

We are grateful to you, our Village,

Erin E. Minor
Chief Executive Officer
